Restaurant POS Hardware in Bangladesh: Phone, Tablet, Printer, Cash Drawer

Restaurant POS hardware in Bangladesh: phone on a stand, thermal printer, and cash drawer.

Restaurant POS hardware in Bangladesh is usually a phone or tablet, a thermal receipt printer, and optional extras (cash drawer, customer display, scanner). You do not need a imported all-in-one till on day one. Riser POS runs on Windows PCs, Android devices, and tablets. Dimdul’s published software price does not include printers.

Quick answer: Restaurant POS hardware in Bangladesh is usually a phone or tablet, a thermal printer, and an optional cash drawer. Riser POS runs on Windows, Android, and tablets. Put the router on a UPS. Dimdul’s published software price does not include printers or the ৳5,000 install.

Minimum kit that actually works

Counter: one Android phone or a small Windows PC with Riser POS installed (not a random Chrome tab).

Kitchen: one tablet on a stand if you use KDS. Skip this for a one-person tea stall.

Receipts: one thermal printer, 58mm or 80mm, USB or Bluetooth to the counter device.

Power: a UPS for the PC and router, or a charged phone plus a power bank. Load-shedding is part of the spec. See offline POS.

That is enough to bill. Everything else is comfort.

What Riser POS lists as compatible

Dimdul’s Riser POS FAQ lists: thermal receipt printers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, customer displays, Android tablets, Windows POS terminals, and Bluetooth printers.

Translate that into a shopping list:

Item Buy first? Notes
Android phone / tablet If you have none Staff already know phones
Windows PC Optional Better for a busy cashier who wants a big keyboard
Thermal printer Yes, if you give receipts Prefer USB for reliability; Bluetooth for a phone-only stall
Cash drawer If cash is most of the drawer Needs a printer with a kick-out port, or a USB drawer
Barcode scanner Rare in restaurants Useful for packaged drinks; skip for cooked food
Customer display Optional Stops bill arguments; not required for a stall
Kitchen tablet If you have a pass KDS
UPS / power bank Yes Otherwise offline mode never gets a chance

Do not let a vendor sell you a “complete imported POS machine” before you have run a week on a phone.

Phone as a till

A phone-as-terminal is normal for small Bangladesh food outlets. It works when:

  • The app (or installed client) is on the phone, not a bookmark
  • The printer is paired and tested with a live bill, not a Windows driver on someone else’s laptop
  • The phone is mounted, not in a waiter’s jeans
  • Battery and a spare cable exist

Riser POS Retail is the product that markets “phone can run the shop” for grocery and clothing. The restaurant product still supports Android. For food, use restaurant Riser POS so you get KDS and tables. Cafe / bakery / tea stall.

Printers: USB vs Bluetooth vs LAN

USB. Best default in Bangladesh. Fewer “where did the printer go” moments.

Bluetooth. Fine for a single phone. Unreliable if three devices try to own it.

LAN / Wi-Fi printers. Fast when the router is healthy. Dead when the router is dead. Avoid as the only printer.

Paper: keep two bundles of rolls in the drawer. Thermal paper fades in heat. Do not store rolls on the tandoor shelf.

What the ৳5,000 install does not buy

Riser POS software: ৳2,000/month. Installation: ৳5,000 for domain, hosting, and training (August 2026). Price post.

Hardware is a local purchase. Ask Dimdul which printer models they have already wired in Dhaka. A ৳1,800 printer they know beats a ৳8,000 printer they have never seen.

Load-shedding layout

  1. Phone till on a stand, always charging when idle.
  2. USB printer on the same UPS strip as the router, or Bluetooth to the phone so the printer only needs its own brick.
  3. Kitchen tablet on a power bank.
  4. Paper KOT pad in the drawer.

If you only UPS the decorative LED sign and not the till, you do not have a POS plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run Riser POS on a phone?

Yes. Android is a supported device class. Mount it, pair a printer, and test offline billing. A tablet is easier for a cashier who wears glasses.

Does Dimdul sell hardware?

Ask. The public pages emphasise software install. Many operators buy printers in Multiplan, IDB, or a local computer market. Confirm compatibility first.

Do I need a barcode scanner for a restaurant?

Only if you sell a lot of sealed bottles and packets with barcodes. Cooked food is tapped on screen.

Will a cheap printer work?

Often. Cheap printers fail on drivers and Bluetooth dropouts, not on the word “thermal.” USB plus a model Dimdul has installed before is the safe path.
