QR Menu for Restaurants in Bangladesh: How It Works with POS

QR menu table tent on a Dhaka cafe table next to tea, scanned by a guest phone.

A QR menu is a code on the table that opens your dishes in the guest’s phone browser. When it is tied to the POS, a price change at the till shows on the phone without reprinting 80 paper menus. Riser POS includes a QR menu in the restaurant product Dimdul installs in Bangladesh.

Quick answer: A QR menu is a code on the table that loads your digital menu. Riser POS includes QR menu for restaurants in Bangladesh. Paper menus stay as fallback when mobile data is dead.

What is a QR menu?

A QR menu is a scannable code (usually printed on a table tent or sticker) that loads a digital menu. Guests use their own phone. You are not buying 40 iPads.

Two common designs:

  1. View-only. Guest reads dishes and still calls a waiter. Simple. Fewer support calls.
  2. Order-from-phone. Guest sends the order to the kitchen. Needs clear table numbers and a rule for when the waiter still comes.

Ask Dimdul which of those two you are getting on install day. They are not the same product in the guest’s mind.

Why Bangladesh rooms use them

Paper menus in Dhaka get sticky, go out of date after a Ramadan price change, and need Bangla plus English for mixed rooms. A QR menu updates once in the POS. You still keep two laminated copies for guests who will not scan, older diners, and the night the mobile data is dead.

QR is not “contactless dining theatre.” It is reprint cost and wrong prices.

How a QR menu should connect to Riser POS

Riser POS lists QR menu next to orders, tables, KDS, and inventory. The useful version is:

  • One menu list in the POS
  • QR codes that point at that list
  • 86’d items (out of stock) disappearing or marking sold out
  • Prices in BDT, including how you show VAT if you add it at the till

If the QR page is a separate Google Site someone made in 2023, it will drift. Kill it.

Pair with KDS so phone orders (if enabled) hit the same kitchen queue as waiter orders.

What to print on the table tent

Print in Bangla and English:

  • “Scan for menu”
  • Table number in huge type (if guests order on the phone)
  • Shop Wi-Fi only if you actually want them on it. Many guests use 4G. Prefer a menu that loads off 4G so you are not running a cafe ISP.
  • A short note: allergens and spice level still go through the waiter if the QR form is weak

Laminate. Tape fails in a humid room.

When QR menus fail

No data. The guest’s phone has no 4G and you hid Wi-Fi. Keep paper.

Slow page. A 4MB photo of biryani on a cheap host. Compress images. Dimdul’s install includes hosting; ask them to keep the menu page light.

Wrong table. Phone ordering without a table number creates food at the pass with no destination. Waiter-only QR (view-only) avoids that.

Offline POS vs QR. Offline billing keeps the till alive. The guest QR page still needs a network. During a long outage, waiters use the POS, not the guest’s phone.

Price

QR menu is part of Riser POS, not a second monthly SKU on the public price list. Riser POS is ৳2,000/month + ৳5,000 installation (August 2026). Printing table tents is your cost. Pricing breakdown.

WhatsApp +880 1538-004738 and ask to scan the QR on a phone that is not on their demo Wi-Fi.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need paper menus?

Yes. Keep a few for guests who will not scan, for load-shedding, and for inspectors or journalists who want something in their hand. QR is the live copy. Paper is the fallback.

Can guests pay from the QR menu?

That depends on the install. Riser POS does not publish bKash or Nagad in-till checkout. Many rooms still take cash, card, or a shop MFS QR at the counter. Confirm payment on the demo.

Is a QR menu the same as Foodpanda?

No. Foodpanda and Pathao are aggregator apps with their own menus and commissions. A QR menu is your dining-room list. Riser POS does not publish aggregator ingest. If riders are 70% of tickets, read the buying guide before you buy.

How often should I update the QR code sticker?

If the URL is stable, almost never. Update the dishes in the POS. Reprint stickers only if you change the domain or the code smears.
